MSDos in XP Pro boot screen?

Is this a true dos, for using with fdisk etc? It loads instantaneously when I use it and should I use it for the fdisk/format action?

As well, can I adjust the show time for the choice between Dos/XP as my computer is taking a long time to boot to a useable screen?

Well, on my machine, the boot screen prior to loading the OS has a choice screen with XP Pro and MS Dos with the default to XP, after a 30 second or so wait, it loads XP Pro.

This is XP Pro which was installed over W98SE. I'm new with XP so educate me.

The choice of ms dos gives me an immediate command prompt in the c drive from which I can select fdisk and it loads.

If XP doesn't have dos, how do you format and set up a drive? Is third party software then required?

You don't need to Dos fdisk and format because XP can handle those functions. You are probably getting the boot menu because you did an upgrade to XP and had or have an OS on a drive other than C.

You upgraded from Win98 and since Win98 was based on DOS it left DOS as a choice, for what reason I don't know. You should be able to use fdisk, format, etc from there but why would you? If it's a new drive format it inside XP, if you want to format and reinstall boot of the CD and do it during install.
