MSDNAA Vista Question

I know we're supposed to be cutting down on the Vista threads, but I tried using the "great" search function here with no success. Is the copy of Vista you get from MSDNAA considered OEM, or does it work like retail. Also, is it the full version? I assume it is since it doesn't say upgrade or OEM anywhere, but being free, I'm not sure what I'm getting. The only reason I ask is that I don't want to void my copy of XP by upgrading to Vista with it, which is how I understand it works. I'm just curious on the OEM thing. Thanks.

It isn't an upgrade thats for sure.. So don't worry about voiding your winxp.

But if i had to guess it is an OEM (i am running it now)... But truthfully i have no idea and if someone knows how to find out let us know.

I'm not sure how transferability is handled (i.e., more like OEM or Retail). However I do know that you can install it on two computers; one desktop and one laptop if you want to be picky.

Thanks. That's pretty much what I was wondering. As long as it isn't an upgrade, I can handle the OEM vs. Retail thing later. I'm sure it works as retail, but I could be wrong. I just wish the download wasn't so dang slow!!

From a good article on Vista installs.

I'm not going into detail today on the merits of buying Vista at retail instead of buying a cheaper OEM copy. (The OEM offerings don't entitle you to call Microsoft for support, while the retail packages do.) Also, I'm not touching here on the least-expensive way to buy Vista, which is to take advantage of Microsoft's "educational" rate. I'll describe both of these topics in next week's newsletter.
