I'm running Windows 2000 Pro SP2, and I like to have things configured so I see hidden and system files, file extentions, the whole enchilada. Not too worried about deleting important stuff. Did delete NTLDR once and had to dig my way back, but that's history.

Well, I see an MSCREATE.DIR 0 byte file in a lot of directories and I wonder if I can delete that file. Is it just some vestigial thing that Windows leaves behind? Thanks for your insight.

The MSCREATE.DIR file is placed there by the install program for many MS products( Office, etc.).. it's a sort of marker that the installer places in any directory that it creates so it knows the dir. is safe to delete when you uninstall or change the application. Probably safe to delete but it's really not hurting anything by being there and it will provide for a cleaner uninstall of MS apps if you ever choose to do so.
