msconfig in win2k?

dethman

what is the equivalent of msconfig in win2k? i'd like to eliminate some startup programs from loading, but this win98/me command doesn't work.

in control panel/administrative tools/computer management/system information/software environment i can see the startup progs, but can't eliminate them. any help is appreciated...

/edit: whoops i was in the wrong forum...whatever...

I just copied over msconfig from a 98 install and use it. It works fine for what you want, just doesn't support most of the other tabs.

just goto start>run> "regedit"

navigate to local_machine, software, microsoft, windows, currentversion, then run.

everything in startup is under there, and you can right click and delete it.

watch out what you delete thouhg 🙂

Since I usually use Windows 9x, I'm not sure if this will work but when I eliminate programs from starting up I usually use regedit. If you go to hkeylocalmachine/software/microsoft/windows/current version/ and then any of the /run, /runonce, etc headings that's where the startup programs are. There also might be some under hkeycurrentuser/software/microsoft, etc...same folders. Like I said, I'm not sure if it's the same in 2k because I haven't messed with it as much as I have 9x, but I'd think there'd be something to the same extent there...

<edit> DOH! Beat me to it = ) </edit>
