Once you uninstall a program, how the heck do you get rid of it in the list of apps when you run msconfig? Thanks,

msconfig is a troubleshooting utility. it is only meant to be used for temporary disabling startup items. If you want to permanently disable a startup item, msconfig is not the way to go. You can if you want though!

If you uninstall an application and it leaves items on your startup, you can remove those using a registry cleaner.

Edit:
To diasble a startup item in mscondig, go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck the item and click "OK".

most things are not in the startup fold most things that start up are in the registry at this location.

No, I'm not asking how to uninstall or disable a start up. I'm saying I have uninstalled an application, deleted its left over files/folders, but when I run msconfig and click the start up tab, the application is still listed in the list of apps you can stop. How do you get rid of the items listed in that start up list in msconfig?

Wow. I have never seen that!
If you use the task manager to list the running processes, does it not show the process that is on the startup list in msconfig?

It is possible that the application left behind a running service.

Take a look at the Services and if it is there disable it.

You can also take a close look at the processes and Start-Up by usinf thses free programs.
