MSC and A+ Certification for employment at Gateway Country

I'm very good with computer hardware and I need a part-time job. I called to talk to a store manager at Gateway Country about a job repairing computers (which I've had a job doing before).

He said I need to be MSC certified and A+ certified. He could have said MFC - didn't hear him that well.

Anyway, where would be the best place to get certified quickly? I would most likely just need to consult a book for some of the terminology - but other than that, I'm pretty certain that I know most of what I will be tested on.

Also, any ideas on how much this costs - just for the tests?

Lemme know if you find anything local as well... 😀

BTW, i live about 5 1/2 maybe 6 seconds from the gateway store.. 🙂

A+ is 2 test about $140 each test. I don't know what the heck a MSC or MFC is, maybe MCSE? Although MCSE doesn't have much to do with hardware.

BTW, know what's the minimum age at Gateway? I need a job!

If I remember right, there are about six individual tests for MCSE. Each costing around $100 to take. Also, even if you think you know a lot about computers, I would take some practice tests first. The tests are way more involved and complicated than you might think.

Lol I work for NASA and they don't even have those requirements...they go by what you know first, certs are only a bonus..most of the certified people we have interviewed though don't know a hard drive from a floppy.

LOL

BTW, I think he meant MCSE also. A lot of people call it MSCE and other odd variations.

it's 7 tests.. 🙂 woah, that's sure alot of hoops to go thru just to get a job at gateway country.. 😛 i bet all the paper mcse's that cant get jobs cuz they dont know anything end up there..

when i applied to gateway they only cared about A+ cert, if you want a job in the repair section. for sales it doesnt matter.

mcse would do you almost no good. i took the first two classes, networking essentials and nt4 server. i dont think gateway would want these unless they plan on you setting up office networks for them.

oh and good luck.

Don't know what MSC is either... but if you want to pass A+ just for this job, do yourself a favor and buy the $40 test prep exams from Cert21.com and you'll be good to go... the questions from that site are almost identical to the real thing. I don't condone doing this for other certifications, but you said you already have hands-on building experience and just need the cert.

I, of course, assume everyone here has been a good boy and good girl and EARNED their certs the real way... right ?

MCSE will cost probably way more then this job is worth, the test prices with no discounts must be more then $100 as they raised their prices. Taking the first 2 test, 2k Professional and Server cost me about $60 each(like last year though), but on the test I have coming up Network Infac., it's $106. These prices are already discounted thru my school.
