mSATA and mini PCI-e ports on Motherboard, are they the same?

Is a motherboard mSATA port different to a mini PCI-e port? They appear to be identical physically in photos but I don't know if they are. Even if physically identical, are they functionally the same?

In particular can an mini-SSD drive on an mSATA card, like this one,

be installed on a mini PCI-e port or are there other types of mini-SSD drives on a mini PCI-e card?

Think they are the same physically like SATA and SAS. The Shuttle board I'm looking into has a mini PCIe/mSATA combo slot.

I contacted both Intel (the board I want to use with the mini PCI-e port) and Kingston (the drive above) and got conflicting answers. The Kingston guy was particularly ignorant, he tried to tell me that drive was for motherboard manufacturers only to integrate onto board!

I ask because I see this mini-PCI-e

and it's not SATA
