Hi guys I had a friend ring up and ask me if I could install a dvd burner and a 120GB hard drive into his computer. I said sure. Its a p3 600, I think it should work. This is not the case as yet. Its a packard bell, motherboard says ms6168 ver2.

The hard drive wont recognize and the dvd burner reports a non atapi device. I can continue for dvd but it doesnt seem to quite behave and wont read cds/dvds as well as having some weird symbols in the name in device manager like XYionner instead of Pioneer and some of those boxes you get when your missing a font.

So can I get this hard drive and burner to work? I think that the bios should do the trick but cant find an offical looking bios page. Sure I found a few dodgy looking ones ala google for ms6168 but Im less game to try them since it isnt my computer to break. Can anyone point me in the right direction for an offical one or the one I should use?

Oh yeah and guess what? He needs this computer back tomorrow. Dammit I should have hit him up for more beer. Its harder than I thought. Hehe.

Thanks for any help.

I ended up flashing an MSI bios in as was posted in that link above. It worked but I still think having to flash other companies bios's is dodgy. Would be nice if HP had a bit better support. Meh it works now.
