I've been a long time lurker at Anandtech and have seen this done several times with some success. Next month I will be riding in my fifth MS150 to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. This year I would like to make my first attempt to really do fundraising. In the past I always only raised the minimum amount to allow me to ride, simply because I enjoyed doing the ride with friends and the thousands of other riders.

This year I have decided that I don't want to just raise the minimum. I became inspired to do more after reading this page on MS from a cyclist who recently passed away. (I came across this page after I bought an old road bike to fix up and turn into a campus commuter and found all of Sheldon Brown's information and advise invaluable in repairing the bicycle.)

While Sheldon Brown was able to keep a positive outlook in life dealing with MS, he is right when he says "Multiple Sclerosis is a nasty, rare, incurable disease." Donations from fundraising events like the MS150 go a long way in funding research that may lead to a cure for MS, so it will no longer be nasty or incurable.

Anandtech is a large community and I am hoping to raise some money for MS. Here is a link to my personal page on the National MS Society website where you can help me raise money for MS.

The MS150 is an incredibly fun event and it is for a great cause. They are held all across the country and if you have never done it, I encourage you to participate or volunteer in a ride for your local chapter. You can find details by going here.

Thanks-
Brian
