Can somebody help me please,

I have a word document that has been protected using Tools > Protect Document.
I've opened the document and I can't unprotect it now. Tools > Unprotect Document, because it's also greyed out.

All the edit menu is greyed out, all the other menus are greyed out except a couple of things.
I can't edit anything, can't add anything. etc..

This is a big document with macros and forms in it and I can't afford to do it all again.

Thanks in Advance.

You might try to open it with some different office suite (Star Office 5.2 is good enough for me to read .doc files, you could try the 6.0 version or maybe Open Office) - but I'm not sure it will do much good - I'm not sure they are so totally compatible

Try turning on the forms toolbar and use the icon that looks like a lock or set your macro security to middle.

Google is your friend . . .:)

Unprotect

Again

I suspect the problem is that when you used "Protect Document," you did not assign a password. You need that to open up the lock. So, try the bypass routes.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I'll try to use a different office suite first.

I've already tried copying the file, renaming it and saving it as an older version of word.

Saving as an older version of word
This seemed to unlock the document, but the macros and forms disappeared.

Thanks again, i'll be in touch
