Is there a way to make the media buttons (i.e. play, pause stop, etc) work with Winamp?

Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite Keyboard Model #1011
Winamp 5.111

i have always had it installed, volume just adjusts the system volume (which is fine for me) but the play/pause etc. only work in WMP

Here's what I did to get my wireless Dell keyboard to work seamlessly with Winamp. I downloaded Tweak UI, ran it and expanded "Explorer" on the left menu and clicked on "Command Keys". Then I changed the command key for "Media" to open Winamp. Then in Winamp, I enabled "Global Hotkeys" and made sure the media buttons were assigned to the correct functions. Worked great for me!
