MS Win XP upgrade advisor

Ran it. It told me I should connect to the net so it could download the "latest files". So I said OK. Then it reports, after some net activity, "an error occurred while downloading files". Sheesh, .NET hasn't a chance in hell. 😛

Try the download later - MS's servers have been getting swamped with people downloading updates.

I highly recommend the program. It will show you what is totally incompatible with XP and what it thinks may have problems. Keep in mind this is only what it thinks, not what may actually be true. The big plus here is that you can see ahead of time what it thinks is totally incompatible - XP will not install until you uninstall any of those programs first. (or install an updated/compatable version) I had to uninstall my Cisco VPN software before it would load but then I just got a later version that XP liked and installed it.

I agree it's a handy tool.

Well it flagged quite a few items including a CD-ROM drive, my printer, scanner, tape drive and a bunch of software. More than I thought it would find.

Well...it is kinda large....I just went to CompUSA and got a free CD.
Ran the upgrade advisor....Looks like my old ISA sound card has to go......
