MS "Whistler" OS and certifications

Rand

Lifer
Does anyone out there know anything about MS's Whistler OS and the market it's aimed at?
The latest dates say it's release to manufacturing date is April 18'th.

If this OS is aimed at the same business market as Windows2000 is, does this mean everyone who is just now getting certified in Windows 2000, their certifications wil mean nothing by April when it's released?
Will our Windows 2000 certifications expire already just as the certs are for those that are NT4.0 certified are going to expire come December 31?

If so, this STINKS!
Windows2000 was just released a year ago, and already those that are Win2k certified are going to have their certifications expire???

MS is going to have an awful lot of unhappy MCSE's and others that got win2K certified if this does happen.

Whistler is just the "Consumer" version of Windows 2000. The Windows 2000 certification will still be top of the line.

Actually, Whistler will be replacing the consumer OS's AND w2K. I'm actually holding out on re-certifying my MCSE until next year so I can see what's gonna happen with Whistler. It should be good until December 2001 plus it gives me lots of time to find job where my employer will pay for my training.

I also read in MCP magazine about a group of people who were setting up their own NT4 certification as they're pissed M$ is doing away with it. If you've already passed your NT4 exams they will give the certification for a charge of course. I think it's $40.

Stefan, you're incorrect. As Needles said Whistler will replace all versions of W2K.

From Whistler FAQ Page

Q: What editions will Whistler include?
A:
Initially, Whistler will include Personal, Professional, Server, a and Advanced Server editions. A Datacenter Server edition is planned for a later date. But Microsoft is working on 64-bit versions of Whistler as well: Whistler/64 will ship in Professional and Server editions.

Whole FAQ

As for certification answers I can't really offer much input there since I have not seen any clear cut answers on that.

from my understanding MSCE certification becomes obselete when the two verions of operation systems have been released from the one you are certified from.

that is if you are certified for win NT4.0, you will be cirtified as an MSCE till whister comes out.

the 31st of december 2000 is the last date to sit and exams for the msce win NT 4.0 stream. Once you have this certification the Microsoft is/was offereing a fast track course to get you up to speed in win2k. Most likely they will offer the same thing anyway.

Plus once you have a couple of years experience the certification becomes less important anyway.
