I recently built a new computer and used MS Files and Settings Wizard to transfer items from the old machine to the new one. I have done this before and it is time comsuming, but it works. This time, after the process was successful, when I attempted to open (or close) a Word or an Excel file on the new computer, I got a MS Visual Basic Error: Compile Error in Hidden Module. A web search showed numerous possible reasons for the error and just as many solutions. But, the common element was always an Office "plug in". In my case, and seemingly in many cases of this error, it is Adobe Acrobat (full version) that resided on the old computer, whose plugin was required also for the new computer in order for Word and Office documents to be opened and closed without this error pop up. The solution was to install Adobe Acrobat (full version) onto my new computer, just as it had been on my old computer. Office XP now recognizes the Word and Excel files on opening without any error codes, because the Adobe plug in has been restored. This apparently occurs with other Office plugins, such as Contact managers. So, if you get this on your machine, keep in mind my solution. As always, YMMV.
