This am started getting a notice of "new updates available" in vista. Did the update/install, and the same update notice keeps coming up to install, over and over. Has ms auto update system been compromised?
Haven't had this, either, but I have "never check for updates" checked under WU settings. Has their been any problems installing the update the notice references?
I have just started to encounter this on Vista home premium 64 bit. it tells me I have 20 updates i need to install. ( i havent fired up vista for a while) I let it go through the updating process and it seems to go though the whole process fine but when i restart it says that I need to install the same 20 updates. It keeps doing this over and over again. I have no AV installed BTW.
I just recently install a new NIC card and I have heard that vista does not like hardware changes like this. Something about the MAC address changing. Last time i changed my NIC card in vista I got partial functionality and I had to reinstall. Is this related to my update problem??
No problems so far on Business 32 bit or 64 bit. Clearing out the SoftwareDistribution directory can sometimes help clear up Windows Update issues, but proceed at your own risk.
I ended up installing the updates in small groups and it turns out that it was KB932596 (the update that doesnt allow unsigned drivers) was the culprit. I dont want to install it anyways. More about this update in this thread here
