I do not understand what is there in this topic that deserves a "Terrible rating". I am sure there is a vista hater roaming around this forum giving terrible ratings to all vista topics, If i was a mod i'd ban him.

One of the most noticeable changes for me is the transfer rates when copying or moving a file (locally) from one directory to another. It has literally tripled in many scenarios; where I averaged 12MB/s pre-SP1 (yes, sad, and one of my biggest gripes with Vista), now I often hit 38MB/s or even 43MB/s in some cases.

Probably a Aberforth hater... I'll pump it up for you.

Thanks for the linkage! 😉

yep..and the RDP improvments allow user to launch multiple instances of RDP and access them simulataneously. The changes are too many to list here 🙂 it's a very good SP.

I must be misunderstanding you, since you've always been able to run multiple instances of the RDP client.

yep, i didn't explain properly. I meant the new compression method in SP1 RDP saves bandwidth and can be used to launch several instances of RDP with minimal loss of performance which is very useful for tech support people I guess.

? Adds support in the Wireless Client for a new FIPS (Federal Information Processing)
Notable Changes in Windows Vista Service Pack 1compliant mode. This mode is FIPS 140-2 compliant because it moves the cryptographic processing from the wireless network card to an existing FIPS-approved cryptographic library.

FIPS 140-2 Compiant wireless client!!!
That's cool!

FIPS 140-2 type encryption is just one cut below NSA Type-1 encryption (which is approved for Classified information). 😎

? Improves OS deployment by enabling 64-bit versions of Windows Vista to be installed from a 32-bit OS.

Nice....

P.S. Nice sig "earthling"!

I am hoping to see this when I finally get the RTM because when VideoReDo is doing a Save As it brings my computer to a grinding halt for a few minutes.

I never had any problems with Vista for the last year but I am using SP1 anyhow. I haven't moved any large files yet so I cannot comment on if it's drastically faster though that would be a gripe I had with Vista.

@Noema

I am curious as to how your can measure your speed with transferring files unless you are using something other than explorer.
