Hi guys,

This thing is buggy me. I am using outlook 07 and setup my my gmail for imap. Everything works fine except for this one thing I can't seem to correct. I want to change my .pst file which is my email files to be store in a different location other than the default location which is like c:\windows\xxxx. I have try opening the data files location and I can't change it in there. I copied the .pst files to a different location start outlook, but all it does is redownload all my mails again. So I shut down outlook and move the .pst file out to a different location and then go to control panel\mail 32bit and click on datafiles and it says file is not found and gives me the option to point to different location and of course I pointed it there. close mail32bit down and start outlook and it just recreates another .pst file on the default location and redownload my mails. How the heck do you get outlook to accept different location?

Default location should be C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook. Are you sure yours is pointing to the Windows folder? Do you have the necessary permissions on your new target folder?

Have you tried following these steps?

From what I remember it was close down outlook, copy pst to where I wanted it then open mail 32 in control panel and re-point the file under the data files tab.

MrCHAD - the default location is according to what you said. I did try those steps, but thats only for changing the default locaiton. I'm trying to point to a different location for my pst file.

Snapster - I did the same process that you just said, the problem is when I open outlook again, it just ignores the new location doesn't use the file where I point it, instead it defaults back to the old location and recreates the file.

How do I stop it from defaulting back to the original location and use the new location?

Try opening the pst file at the new location, from within Outlook. (File > Open...)

Also try running Outlook as Administrator.

Good luck!
