MS Outlook 2003 Niggle

My work computer: XP Pro, brand new, clean, yadda yadda yadda uses MS Outlook 2003 as the email client. Only when the program loads, (and not at start-up) it places an icon in the system tray. I'm not talking about the 'new mail' notification, I'm talking about just an icon that tells you ME Outlook is alive and running.

I've looked and looked for a way to get rid of this icon. Poked around the registry, looked thru all its settings, right clicked the icon and looked for the obvious stuff......nothing.

I'm not a big fan of applications putting junk in there. If I want it there, I'll put it there myself. <venting> 🙂

Does anyone know how to get rid of the icon?

Oh....I tried msconfig too, and it doesn't look as tho I am able (permitted) to kill the couple of processes that startup when the computer starts up or logs on.

Any ideas? 🙁

Close Outlook.

I don't know of another way. I believe this was added in response to a large number of requests to allow Outlook to run minimized in the system tray rather than on the task bar.

Right-click on the toolbar, click "Properties", click "Customize" and change the setting for that icon to never appear.

Thanks for the replies. Regarding the taskbar suggestion.....I tried that, but that's not what I was hoping to do. I rally just wanted the icon out, not just hidden, but I appreciate the idea....both of them.

Thanks...
