MS or MBA

so...i just found out if i can get into the program, i can have my undergrad and MS in MIS in 5yrs...or i could have both, but MBA in 6yrs...

my dad said it doesnt really matter, other than MS ppl are usually more worker-bee types and MBAs are more management...

i prefer solutions and managemnet MUCH more than sys. admin work and crap ive done in the past...

but even if MBA would be better for what i like...its a whole 'nother year...and if i am good enough for the job, is the employer really going to care if it is MS or MBA....a masters is a masters, is it not?

your dad is right, masters in MIS is different from MBA, if only that people are going to assume certain things about you becuase of the type of people who get the masters in MIS. I would get the MBA.

the reason I have a qualified opinion: I have extensively researched getting an MBA in reference to pairing it with a technical degree because I am currently an EE senior and I have been looking into getting an MBA or other masters. If you want to be more versatile instead of locked into tech management, get the MBA.

nono...i want to be in tech managment...thats fine...i just dont wana be a code monkey or sys admin my whole life...CIO would be my top goal...i dont really wana manage other crap like warehouses, finance, etc.

halik: UA has one of the top business schools in the nation 😛

If you're really set on an mba, you should just get your degree for now, then get really great work experience with great references for the next 2-3 years. If everything works out, and you do well on the gmat, etc., you can get into a nicer mba program. But an mba program straight out of your bachelor's degree isn't recommended, although a JD/MBA program can be good. Ever thought about law school?
