I have a friend that recently built a new PC and everything seems to be working fine except for Office. He first tried Office XP (he is running Windows XP Home), but when he would try to start Word it would immediately come up with an error and crash. I'm not sure what the exact error was... I think it just popped up one of the "Windows has encountered a problem" messages. The other Office programs would work for a few minutes but then they too would eventually crash.
So he uninstalled Office XP and then tried to install Office 2000. All the Office programs will start, but as soon as he tries to do a "Save as" they simply quit with no error message at all.
The only thing I can figure is that there must be a corrupt file in his Windows installation. I don't think it's a memory issue since it so far only appears to Office that exhibits this problem. For example, he can run UT2K3 for several hours straight without a hitch. If anyone has ideas on something we could try, let me know.... otherwise I think we may simply have to reinstall Windows.
