MS Office Pro Plus 2013 activated maximum number of times

MS Office Professional 2013 wont let me activate stating that it has already been activated a maximum number of times. I had no idea there was a limit on this. The key has only been used on one machine but I've rebuilt it enough times that I must have hit my limit. Is there a way to fix this or is my key dead?

How many times did you reinstall MSO?

In future, just so you know, make reinstalling Windows the act of last resort rather than first. Ask for help rather than jumping on to reinstalling Windows because chances are you're wasting your time with the reinstall. Also, if anyone suggests reinstalling Windows as the first or second suggestion for solving your problem, ignore them.

I agree with mxnerd: MS will probably reactivate it for you if you ring them.

Office mostly got deactivated from hardware changes. This last one happened when I swapped CPUs. I'll give MS a call and see what they can do.

Had the same thing happen on two of my Office licenses back in 2015. I was not very happy about it, and they didn't even give me a number to call.

I don't know if this works on Office 2013, but you can deactivate devices on office 356 through office.com. Of course you would have to tied the key to your MS account at some point.

Otherwise you will need to call MS

Same. I can choose to activate by phone but then it says phone activation is no longer available and doesn't even give me a phone number. I'll call the activation line tomorrow. I've read that if you hit all the wrong menu option the system will think your an idiot and forward you to a live agent.

Huh. Office deactivated but Windows didn't? I don't think I've ever seen MSO get deactivated...

I thought that was odd too but it's the first time it's ever been deactivated. I can't know for sure but it must have been the CPU swap I did about a month ago. I think this is the first I've used office since then. I suppose it's also possible that someone stole the activation key out of my old Yahoo email account.
