When working in MS Offfice ( espicall word). I edit a file and save it under another file name i notice it creates a temp file. When i exit out of the application it still keeps those temp files on my machine.

Any suggestions on what would cause this ?

cash_cache

its something like that!

office utilizes the temp file in place of your original. after you save, the changes are applied from the temp to your original.
when you open a file, a temp is created and i believe you got the point!

hey, your ms office cache is nothing compared to your internet cache (if you browse a lot).

I'm not absolutely sure about this, but I think it might be due to a setting in Word. Take a look under Tools, Options, Save, and see whether the box for Always create backup copy is checked. If so, uncheck it and see whether that changes this behavior.
