MS Mediaplayer phoning home

Installed mediaplayer 10 'bout 3 weeks ago.

'Active ports' and task mgr networking show it connects to about half a dozen different ips initially when i start it, then apparently each time i play a new song it loads another page from somewhere...

Under options/ security, privacy i've ticked / unticked the relevant boxes but mediaplayer is gonna call the mothership(s) no matter what...

How do I stop it ?

I just wanna play my music/videos in peace.

firewalling is definitely the quick answer, but like Nithin said there are also alternative mediaplayers that are much cooler and don't do those things 🙂

lookup the domain names associated with the ip's and then add those to your hosts file

whatever.microsoft.com 127.0.0.1
something.microsoft.com 127.0.0.1
etc.

edit: sorry for the late bump... didn't notice the posts died off
