MS Intellimouse 4.0 randomly dies, have to replug into USB to fix

Just recently, my optical usb MS intellimouse 4.0 mouse will randomly die on me, so I have to unplug/reply to fix the problem, and it is getting really tedious to do this constantly. The ONLY thing I can think of that might have caused this is that I recently started using a USB flash drive, so it installed that device on my computer - and possibly enabled 1 more USB port. I have an additional PCI card w/ extra USB ports (thinking my MOBO's USB ports were failing) but pluggin my mouse into those ports doesn't seem to fix it.

This problem is pretty strange and hard to explain - any hints/help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need any more info from me.

Try a different mouse to see if that makes a difference.

I do not have an extra USB mouse lying around that I could test with, :-/
