I've tried the usb and the ps2 port same problem in both. I thought i saw a thread about this before it had something to do with the wires in the cable. MS was replacing them i think.

Well if you open your mouse up you will find that the wires are bent in such a way as to get pinched. They end up getting frayed. In addition to this my last MS optical went mental on me. During games (UT) suddenly the hourglass would appear in the middle of my screen over my crosshair. Then the mouse would just stop working at all. I tried everything to fix it. Finally I said to hell with it and bought a Logitech optical for $30. The action is much smoother, it feels better in my hand, and hasn't screwed up once. The Logitech owns the MS Optical. Just my opinion :)

Me too. I got one that crapped out immediately so I went to BestBuy and picked up 2 more and one of those turned out bad ! The one I have in my hand is a year old and I love it.....I hope it lives.....With all the problems I see MS has some work to do.
Like.... GET RID OF THE CABLE Bill ! IT'S 2001

No need to send it back. MS will replace it for free. Tell them when and where you bought it as they will give you a hassle if it came OEM. They will want the serial number off the back of the mouse as well.

I've had 2 go bad. The first had the wire problem. The replacement has a microswitch problem. It's replacement works fine..:Q
