I just wish there was a good realistic combat flight sim, haven't played one in ages.

Flight Sim X is supposed to be realistic. My pilot friend wants to build an elaborate setup to play it.

I saw one that a guy spent over 15,000.00 to set up.
He had 3 monitors, pedals, yoke, throttles, etc all out of real planes.
That was with flight sim 9.
I'm betting he has moved to flight simx.

Notice he said "combat flight sim".

I have the discs for Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 2004, it wasn't too shabby but I'm not a big fan of the flight simulator series anyways.

I am also looking for a good combat flight sim. Last one I played was F-22 Lightning II in 1998 or 1999!!!

FSX is a great game. I really enjoyed the missions. I still need to grab the Acceleration expansion to try out the F/A-18.

For Combat Flight Sims, Lock On: Modern Air Combat is the best! There's a huge mod community with new aircraft, scenery, etc. LOMAC can be had for around $20 with the Flaming Cliffs expansion (LOMAC Gold) if you look in the right places.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but what are some good places to fly over to enjoy the scenery?

nope, you wish. FS9 is still way more mature than FSX. Yes, the default environment is way better than FS9 BUT with the free add-on real environment, you get FSX quality(or better) sky textures. The only good plane add-on for FSX so far is the PMDG 744 and acceleration is actually pretty decent.

There are two Flight Simulator retail products, Deluxe and Regular. Are these numbers for one of those or both?

Based on your number, you seem to be quoting 2007 sales but FSX was released in October 2006. Most games sell their largest numbers when they are first released. You don't happen to have those 2006 numbers do you? According to this story in November 06, the two FSX products were the #5 and #10 best selling games for October 2006. So they weren't the top games at the time but seemed to be doing OK. Plus, as I mentioned before, their sales are split between two SKUs. If you add those two numbers together I would think the ranking would be quite a bit higher.

On a serious note, its sad to think that, selling 280K copies on a potential market of 1+ billion can be considered good these days.

For a game with such a limited audience and high system requirements, it's not bad. How many people want to play flight simulators?

I highly recommend you to get the AE now.
Then trying to land an FA-18 Hornet on a carrier flight deck at pitch darkness is a real scary act.
My night landing success rate is at a horrible 10% or less.
What a great navy aviator, huh.
What a waste of tax payer money, too. :D
