First deal post so please be gentle.

This is a huge YMMV, I was in my local Target in NVA and decided to look buying a Flight Sim.

They had MS Flight Simulator 2002 Standard for $29.95 and the Professional version for $49.95, both have a rebate form on the box for $20 valid thru '04

I'm cheap so I got the Standard thinking that $10 for a decent flight sim was good enough. However when I came to open the box, it was sealed, I discovered a Professional version inside.

Now obviously with software if you open the box you can only return it for the same product. No idea why the standard had the pro version inside or even the differences between the versions (apart from $20) but I would be interested to know if anyone has had the same good fortune :)

Hi chiliblue, welcome to AT :)

It seems that MS also gives older versions away for free after rebate sometimes. I remember getting my Fsim 2k2 for $20 - $20 rebate (of course, the MS rebate came very quickly). If you've been wanting the pro, then very lucky :)

In my case, I don't fly enough to justify any $ above a FAR Fsim :)

Don't forget that the highly anticipated MS Flight Sim 2004 (A Century of Flight) comes out July 29, 2003. Older versions should be or will be heavily discounted soon.
