MS Excel question

Say I have 2 spreadsheets. One was made by Bob and the other was made by John. Both spreadsheets are exactly the same concerning the names of columns.
the only difference is the data in these fields.

is there a way to merge these 2 spreadsheets into 1 spreadsheet?
the only way i can find to do it says that the 2 files would have to originally come from the same file before, the workbook must have been shared and change tracking would have to have been turned on.

am i stuck just copying and pasting from 1 to the other?

Did you try the on-line help feature in Excel? I am not great with that program - although I keep telling myself I am going to learn it someday.

yeah, all i could find was what i mentioned in my op - which didn't help me at all.
i searched google also and all i could find was the same info.

Pomtifex, could you provide more information? Do you need info from both, do you just need the most up-to-date info? Were both changed from the original and you need to know what was changed? Or what?

That software forum needs to be shut down. It is useless.

If they all have the same column headers, and thus the same type of infor in the cells (ie. Phone number, name, address) then why is it so hard to simply copy and paste? You would have been done by now

need info from both spreadsheets. both were created separately by 2 different people. i need to merge the data from 1 into the other.

dunno about software forum but tech support should be removed. there's like 3 posts per day there and most go unanswered.

I think you are stuck copying and pasting. You could write a macro, but that'll probably take longer than copy/paste.

Other than copy/paste from one to the other... you could setup an Access table, and use Access to combine the two.

I'd have to look into the merging of the two spreadsheets...but nothing stuck out when I did a quick look-see.

And I do venture into the software form during the day...

Try writing a macros in Excel. I am sure it can be done.

Tools > Macro > Visual Basic Editor

It can be done using vlookup (in a round about sort of way), or done by writing a macro. Both would take much longer then simply C+V.
