MS DSS80 boots to wave muted in WinME

I have the Microsoft Digital Sound System for a oong time now and have never had a problem. Ever since I upgraded to Windows ME, I am having this problem. It does not happen every time that I know of, but no sound will come through but it will light up like it is working. In my volume control panel, the wave setting is at the lowest setting. I move it back up and everything works fine till a random reboot will lower the setting again. Any ideas. Thanks in advance.

Do you have them connected using USB or straight to the sound card? USB is the only way I can imagine them having problems with reseting the volume.
