MS Dos compatibility mode question..help

My Cd rom seems to be running in ms dos compatibility mode. It will run some cd's but I'm trying to intall front page & it wont run at all...I have a yellow mark on my secondary ide controller...When I look at its properties it dosent have a resorces tab listed ..I went into the registry to look for a NOIDE entry in the local_machine key but there wasnt one...I tried to remove the controllers but i have to remove all of them..(ali pci bus Ide...ali secondary ide & the primary Ide) And it just goes back this way when i reload... any help would be great1..I Have no idea where to go from here...thanks...Pat

Are you running win95? 95 tended to complain in just that way if the CD-ROM was on the same IDE channel as the primary HD at the time Windows was installed... The solution was to install Windows witht he CD-ROM set as master on the secondary IDE channel.

Win98 seems to have fixed that bug, at least in my experience!

I'm running 98...I was running 95 & I had the problem too..but I upgraded to 98 ..do you think it would carry over?

You have a DOS-mode CDROM driver loading. To remove:
Start->Run->"sysedit"

In config.sys, find a line similar to "device=c:\cdrom\cdrom.sys /D:MSCD001", and rem it out: "rem device=..."

In autoexec.bat, rem out any lines refering to MSCDEX.

TextText:cool:Thanks power joe ..did what you said & it worked..the only thing, its using the standard secondary conroller instead of the ali controller altra66 I'm a little afraid to try to install it off the disk cause I think it's what caused the problem in the first place.......but anyway thanks again for your help....Pat
