well, first you might want to try to do a scandisk. type scandisk. if it finds errors, it will ask if you would like to fix them, of course click yes. If you do a surface scan it will take a long time depending on how large your disk drive is. you may also want to check to see if your partition is intacted. type fdisk and choose the option to view all partitions. if you partition is corupted you may be in for the long haul of reformatting. there is a program called partion magic. that may help.
here are some other basic dos commands that will allow you to move around.
dir - displays directories and files
dir/p - displays directorys in page form press any key to move on
cd - change directory "cd windows"
