MS crippled bluetooth compatability in Vista?

Looks like MS crippled all bluetooth compatability in Vista.
Tried connecting a bluetooth headset to the pc to use with skype ... no go.
Keeps asking for a driver for the headset which obviously doesn't need one ... only a profile in the bluetooth stack.

...do you have a proper driver loaded for the BT dongle/card/whatever? Whatever you are connecting the headset to needs a driver.

A lot of the BT drivers/profiles that were included with XP SP2 are not included in Vista RTM. I think a lot of the support was pulled for compatibility/quality reasons.

A great example would be my new Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000, which only works with the USB bluetooth adapter and not with my onboard (Thinkpad) adapter.

I've heard that they are working on support for more devices moving forward, but it'll probably be later this year before we see it.

There is a bit of a hack out there to use the Widcomm BT stack which is supposed to be compatible with more devices, but I havent tried it (yet).

I tried the Widcomm hack but it didn't work.
Maybe I will give it another try.

No luck.

This is a windows driver that is not working properly!!!
Vista gets worse and worse in my eyes.

I really like it overall but driver compatability svcks.

I haven't had any problems.

My Palm Treo 650, MS BT Keyboard and MS BT Mouse connected without any problems.

It seems to be mostly headset profiles, A2DP, AVRCP, etc. Annoying considering the emphasis on voice recognition in Vista.

If you're interested in voice recognition you shouldn't be using a BT headset. They don't have the frequency response of an analog or USB headset.
