July 29, 2009 - The second Summer of Arcade is underway on Xbox Live with 'Splosion Man and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 currently available. Still to come are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-shelled, Trials HD, and Shadow Complex. Today Microsoft announced an incentive to coax gamers into buying all five titles. If you download the lot by August 31, Microsoft will refund 800 Points ($10) back into your account. The entire batch of Summer of Arcade games will set you back $70.

This giveaway is only available to Xbox Live users in the U.S.

Major Nelson lists the dates and prices. I really have to question the price of TMNT: Turtles in Time. Yes, they enhanced the graphics but it is still a pretty short game to begin with. Unless they found a way to extend the game another hour or two I would have to give a big "Boo" to that.

With Monkey Island being released next week, I'm not sure why it wasn't included in this list. <shrug>

UPDATE 2: Schedule Change. Splosion Man is now first out of the box and TMNT gets bumped back two weeks.

I spend too much money on Xbox Arcade, and it looks like I'll continue to do so. Shadow Complex and Splosion Man looks fun, I'll have to try the demos.

Seriously. I hate how 800 became the new 400 and now 1200 is becoming the new 800. The inflation on XBLA has been insane. Shadow Complex is the only game on that list that is likely worth the $15. I may end up passing on TMNT and MvC2 at these prices or at least waiting for a sale.

Yep. I'll wait until they do one of their Live Deals of the Week before I get that one. Or my son gives me some of his allowance money.

Check out this video of TMNT's first stage. They really screwed up the music. Its awful! On top of that its 1200ms points?? LOL No thanks.

Splosion man looks good, MVC2 for 1200ms points is ok if you like the game and Trials 2 is a good game on the pc (and HARD) but this looks new enough that I may bite.

Heh. Well, he's the one aching to play it. I'm not paying 1200 MS Point so it'll come out of his pocket one way or the other. :D

So what is everyone's thoughts on the big push towards $15 Live Arcade titles now? I actually don't think I mind it as much as I thought I would. I just hope that by some chance all these titles we have bought over the years will be playable on the next XBOX.

July 29th can't come soon enough for me. I can't wait for Marvel vs Capcom 2, still remember the fun times I had back in the arcades with it. Shadow Complex looks interesting as well.

Yeah I went ahead and bought it myself. Ton of fun and it is a pretty good translation from the PC. Bit tricker operating the ninja rope than it was on the PC for me but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.

I dont mind so much because the rise in price seems to have led to a rise in scope and quality. BF1942 and MvC2 are most definitely $15 games than are way bigger than the old XBLA titles.

But now that its become the standard, there's still a few games that are priced that high that arent making the cut, like TMNT.

Yeah, unless there's some major component to that game that I don't know about, $15 is too much for a 30-minute game no matter how nicely it has been "re-shelled."

No price is unreasonable so long as there is enough content to justify it, especially considering that there are games on the DS and PSP that cost $20-$30+ and are comparable to some of the PSN and XBLA offerings.

Just a bump... I just got my 800points. I enjoyed all the summer of arcade games except for TMNT (which isn't awful but its the worst of the lot to me) so this is like a refund. :p
