Tried several times to install it and it hung for something like 2 hours at 20% install with either Web or Download Manual installation and the result FAILED to Install ?

I'm going to re-write my OS with a Month old proven Macrium WinX 21H1 Image and start over ;o(

Granted I did get corrective SFC -scannow results and tried the update repetitively but it hung at a 20% install and failed to update.

Profanity is not allowed in the tech forums.

Try upgrading your PC to something newer than an e-machine from the 90s, and Windows Updates might process faster. Do you even "SSD", bro?

Just saying, it seems like you're the only one having these issues...

Jabs aside, I find that those Cumulative Updates, have two rounds of progress meters, and on the second one, it often sits at 20-21% for several minutes.

As long as CPU/Disk/Network have activity, best to just wait it out - it's still running.

Ok, I just did the one that you are talking about. It took nearly an hour total, including the reboot phase. (*) That was a biggie!

Chances are, this update is staging the Win11 code on your PC, in preparation for Oct. 5th 2021.

(*) On a Ryzen 3050e 2C/4 APU with 4GB DDR4-3200, and 64GB eMMC.

Also, I've had Windows Updates not "go", because my system (OS drive) didn't have enough storage space. Make sure that you have enough free space on the OS drive, otherwise Windows Update may pause. You might have to reboot after freeing up the space, too, to get it to become "active" again.

Virtual Larry:

KB5005611 - We can not install this update, but you can try again (0x800f0831)?

Granted I have more then over dozen OC'g errors on my 21H1 WINX causing BSOD's but this error only happens with a Cumulative Upgrade ?

Guess I gotta go back a month past Stable System UpDate with a Macruim Refect backup to resolve this crap and build it up from a stable platform ?

WINX Cumulative Update CRAP about twice a year ;o(

I can link the (0x800f0831) Error to Youtube Fixes but most are CRAP !

Can't say if I'm if going to spend the time to FIX this System or go Back a month and start over !
Either way I got hours of work to fix WINX 21H1 with this latest Preview Update - Should have known better then to never elect to install a MS Preview Cumulative Update ;o)

I am rather on the extreme of reckless with my OS's.

Can't a say my platform is outta date:
ASUS X470 Hero
AMD 3700X
32GB 4X8 T-Force @ 16Cl 3600Mhz
MVNe2 PICE3 XMP Boot and Dual Samsung M2 840 in Raid 0 as a Playground .

My bad, that is better than an e-machine for sure. Better than my rig too.

Sounds like unstable OC or unstable hardware then.

I've had "weird things" happen with OC-fail BSODs.

Friend had his WU totally bork, when he installed a version upgrade with bad/unstable RAM.

Larry: Possible unreliable Realtek Sound Drivers ?

Rather then fight it, I think I'm going back a month with a STABLE Macrium over-write and run MS Updates.

I totally debased the OC to Default = the same 0x800f0831 for that KB50056831 Preview update ERROR to no avail using either the Web and download setup = NO INSTALL.

Checking CBS Logs I have incomplete capsules - Probably due to my careless use of WinX for the last few months - Yet "SFC -sannow" report perfect - I'm about to give up and over-write with an older OS and continue from there !

A while back a major Update came through to my two machines, one a laptop, the other a desktop. The update to the desktop, which is a top level machine, installed but the laptop Update reported that the machine was "not ready and to try again later". I''m not a patient man but just to be different I left the laptop as it was and waited. 6 mo later the update took.
If your OS responds that it is not ready, installing a dupe will not hurry the process. In my case, installation awaited ASUS or Windows to up date its files first for the Update to take.

GPU is a Sapphire Pulse 5700 XT. Great Battle 5 Platform but I'm NOT a gamer and more into this type of [redacted] !

PIXIO Prime 7 165Hz 2560x1440 IPS Monitor which I generally use at 120 Hz ;o)

Can't say I'm out of date for equipment considering Win11 is on the horizon.

SFC OffLine
With the WinX 21H1 ESD plugged im
UpDate & Security/Recovery/Advanced StartUp - Clk Restart Now - Troubleshoot/Command Prompt

Type: SFC /scannow /offbootdirC\ /offwindir=D:\Windows
May have to run SFC 3 or more times to repair

DISM
Open CMD as Adm
Type: DISM OnLine /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth or ScanHealth or RestoreHealth

Open Powerschell as Adm

Type: Repair -WindowsImage -online -CheckHealth or ScanHealth or RestoreHealth

I even ran a 21H1 Repair - Over-write which I hesitate to do as it buggers lots of my Audio and video recording configurations.

In all cases the OS failed to install KB5005611 ;o(

I had enough trying to repair the OS and Over-wrote it a known GOOD Sept 3rd Macrium Image which was successful installing KB5005611 ;o)
