So i set up my new MSI barebones laptop and all seemed to be well but for some reason my video card drivers keep either uninstalling or resetting or something. Its happened like 3 to 4 times so far.

what happens is everything will be fine and then ill turn off my computer for a while and turn it back on and the res will be set at something like 640*480. I can go change the res back to 1680*1050 but then its still set at 16 bitu colors and i cant switch out of that. Something definitely happens to the video drivers because i have to reinstall them for it to work properly again.

This last time its happened its not even helping at all to reinstall the drivers and its stuck on 16bit graphics as the highest it can go.

I dont know if maybe its a setting in bios or soemthing because theres a few things in there that ive never seen before and maybe it could be one of those.

Also the funny thing about this is the only way i can get the drivers for it is off the cd that came with it. heres the product page: http://www.msicomputer.com/NB/....asp?model=MS-1651-ID2
This is the first that ive seen that doesnt have any type of support online.

My other guess would be some kind of short on the video card. When i put the heatsink on it there was this rubbery/doughy material that was set up so it made contact with the video card memeory. Maybe by pressing down its causing a short? Do i need to keep that on or should i removie it? If i do i dont think i can apply enough Artic silver so it makes contact with the heatsink.

Besides that i dont know what else it could be. It also did something weird the first time i installed windows on it. It though there was 2 displays attached for some reason? any suggestions?

ill gonna try that when i get home later. I was using the drivers from NVIDIA's website too as they were more up to date than the ones supplied on my laptop cd. If that doesn't work should i try the older video drivers?

Also on a side note wtf is "nvidia HD audio driver" shouldnt i just be installing my realtek audio driver? why is nvidia handling this?

ok i read this while in class(yea i shouldnt be online) http://forum.msi.com.tw/index....topic=123765.msg942339

this seems to be my exact issue. My only problem is i dont know where to find a new updated bios for the 1651 anywhere.

I linked the product page before and theres nothing there. Is there somewhere else i can find bios/drivers? Or should i try the GX620 bios(i think its the same laptop just not barebones) this is what makes me think theyre the same: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=318261

If nothing else im gonna revert back to the old nvidia driver :(

i think when i get home im just gonna give the gx620 bios a shot and just keep my fingers crossed. ill give the update tool a shot to see if it works first.

MSI made a pretty decent product, too bad the support and downloads and stuff for it is terrible lol

ughhh now im having trouble flashing the bios. started a new thread. I will report back once i try it. MSI website friggin sucks BTW. have to go to global to get bios and drivers, didnt have the exact same model as mine (praying the 620 bios are the same) no notes on what fixes the new bios came out with. terrible.

not to mention i have never had trouble before flashing asus/gigabyte/DFI products....... stupid MSI
