Howdy,

I know I've seen this asked before but I'm hoping someone can give me specifics with this router....

I just got my NetGear MR814v2 today. I already have a SMC Barricade 4 port router that is connected to my cable modem. I want to use the MR814 as an access point for my laptop but NOT as a router with DHCP and such.

I plugged it in and it seemed to work just fine without me making any chances to anything (at least for Internet access)

What settings do I need to change in the config of the MR814 to make everything nice and happy?

I've turned off the Use Routher as DHCP Server option as the SMC router is taking care of that. Do I have to change any of the other IP settings to put them in sync with my SMC router?

The SMC router's IP is 192.168.123.254 and it assigns IPs in the range of 192.168.123.100 - 199
The 814 router's IP is 192.168.0.1 and it assigns IPs in it's own range. Do I need to put the 814's IP address in the SMCs DHCP range or is that not needed?

Just don't want to screw anything up since the 814 didn't come with any instructions except 1 page that shows me how to plug it in. heh.

Plug the primary router into one of the LAN ports, using a crossover cable if necessary. If the ports on either side are auto-sensing, or there's an uplink port on one router, you can use a standard patch cable. DON'T plug anything into the WAN port of the secondary router. Disable the DHCP of the secondary router, which you indicate you have already done.

Well, I went from a normal port on the primary router (SMC) to the "Internet" port on the second dary router (NetGear Wireless) and it seems to be working just fine. Only config change I made wasa the DHCP setting.

How can I tell the difference between a crossover cable and a standard network cable? I don't think I've ever used an actual crossover cable before.

A couple of the wires are switched, but generally you know if you plug it in and get green lights but nothing works. :)
