Mr Tire Arse Raping or What?

It's time for new tires on the vw TDI golf of mine.. Wen't into mr. tire and I was quoted 587 for the goodyear assurance triple tread tire? This price includes alignment ( which I may or may not need ) insurance on all the tires, and out the door with tax? I am thinking I should just get the damn things but I feel this is a bit expensive they are top rated tires though supposedly...

in combination with the surging demand in the petrochem industry, goodyear's isoprene manufacturing plant went down this year and they started buying it on the free market, causing huge fluctuations in its price and the price of tires

I'm guessing you don't live in the US. $587 in what kind of money?

Yeah its us dollars... LOL

wtf kind of american says "arse"? and rugby, who are you kidding?

That's a rip off. I get performance tires for 17" wheels for around $320. If you buy cheaper tires then you won't have to waste money on "tire insurance" lol

Sweet.. where at? how do you like those triple treads?

Find the right size tires here: Vulcan, print the page out, and take it to Sears or Discount tires for a price match, or buy the online & have Wal Mart install them.

Buy the Falkens I linked to instead of the Goodyears... Top rated by Consumer Reports.

Goodyears... heh, expensive and... wait... that's about it.

I'm not dead set on them, friends actually have kumho's said they are pretty good and lookin at pirelli and other brands as well..

Tirerack will ship direct to a local installer (if theres one in your town). My local guy charges around $15 per tire for install and UPS just drops the tires off at his garage so you dont have to carry them around in the back of your car.

I bought some 225/45 17 continentals from tirerack last year for my S4, full set inc install was less than $500.

Cool.. Thx for the advice all!!!!!!!!!! =)

just make sure that when you're getting your quotes that you get an "out the door" price... some places like to stack fees after the fact

Yep, nothing like getting the bill & realizing they're added another $20 for replacing the valve stems...

Yup... the out the door price is important. The gov't and state typically requires a place dispose of stuff after installation. And most businesses pass that onto the customer (disposal fees usually),

If Tirerack doesn't suit your fancy on their tires selection, Discount Tire Direct has a similar setup with a slightly different selection. Same "shipped to garage for them to mount" deally.

Typically I found Michelins and Goodyears to be overpriced and underperforming. I was skeptical of Yokohamas since their performance tires were kinda crappy but the current set on my beater Neon work pretty darn well and were fairly competitive with the Kuhmos and definitely better than the Goodyears.

And yes, I autocrossed those sonvab1tches just for the hell of it since an idiot smacked up my other car at the time.

Welp after all the research and advice I have decided to buy tires online and then go to NTB to get them mounted and balanced for 11.99 a wheel.. So bye bye Mr. Tire trying to charge me 600 bucks... This will cost me less than 300 doing it this way.
