Don't compare this to an Android tablet or Apple iPad. Try comparing it to a tablet pc and it'll be easier to see why some people (and myself) are excited about it.

It's thinner/lighter than existing tablet pc. It's also fast and has good amount of memory. It runs existing pc/Windows software! (It doesn't have an attached keyboard/mouse, but I rarely use that on my tablet pc now anyways.)

You can't even compare it to Android tablet or Apple iPad. 4GB RAM vs 256MB/512MB?? 1280x800 resolution vs 1024x768/800x600?? Wacom stylus vs capacitive only?? (It can probably also run MacOS and Linux and anything else..)

Yes - its in a class of its own in that regard, and is certainly much more powerful than those tablets. However, it really depends on your needs - for that amount of money, a device with a keyboard isn't going to cut it.

I think this has potential to be an awesome device, but its not going to break into the mainstream.

Their last ModBook was probably 5lbs and at least 1" thick. The Thinkpad Tablet (from 2008) was under 4lbs and had a keyboard and supports up to 8GB RAM. ModBook still pretty cool since it's a great mod on a MacBook.

The new ModBookPro 13" is probably also going to be around 4lbs and 1" thick. The Asus Slate is 2.5lbs and comes with a wireless keyboard(?). Also Windows has native handwriting recognition.

One of the negatives of the current hybrid(laptop) tablets is that they're too heavy and thick. As they get thinner and lighter and better battery life, they're going to get more popular. It doesn't matter what your OS preference is (Apple, Android, Linux, Windows, etc.), as long as more progress is made so the technology gets cheaper and better.

For me, the Slate is like if I ripped the screen off my Thinkpad Tablet and it still works.

The specs on Amazon (pre-order) claim up to 3hrs. Not horrible, but not great either.

Might be possible to squeeze more life out of it. Underclock, undervolt and turn off unnecessary stuff. Also it does use Wacom which uses more power.
