My Norton firewall keeps giving me a message that this program is trying to access the internet. I have looked for it everywhere and can't find it, does anybody know what program it belongs to? I keep denying it until I know what it is. Thanks.

Oh gosh, not that one again. It's not mpr.exe. It's actually mprexe.exe. It's the WinNT Network Interface Service Process control program. Have you been able to get online stably without allowing it to run? If so, then there shouldn't be any need to worry about it. It's only important if you intend to use Novell to log on to a network. If you're like me, and use a Novell network to access the internet...it becomes important...

I'll have to pay attention to the name next time it comes up, but yes, I can get online fine. I am running Win 98 SE, and am connecting thru a cable modem and a router. Should i just go ahead and allow it to access?

See if its actually mprexe.exe thats trying to connect, if so you should be ok allowing it. There was a version of the sub7 rat trojan that used the name mpr.exe to connect.

Well, like I said earlier, you can go ahead and allow it to access, but it obviously doesn't make any difference. And if NFW says its accessing the internet when it apparently doesn't need to, then deny it. It'll just leave you with that many less worries about possible security breaches :)
