It's the best media player app out there right now.

*glares at VLC and its lack of post-processing options*

vlc frustrations are precisely why i switched back to mplayer. it's ridiculous that a macbook pro would chug on 1080p video files because the videoplayer doesn't support multithreaded decoding and is poorly localized for os x in general. this isn't to say vlc is great for most files, it just sucks for high bitrate video files that are encoded in a none quicktime friendly way.

MPlayer isn't any more multithreaded than VLC. I think it has an option to use the experimental multithreaded version of libavcodec, but that currently has the approximate stability of MacOS 8.

right, and it's been working pretty well the last few days. i'm hopeful that it'll get better, because vlc devs aren't even bothering to go in that direction.

What's more astounding is that the people that make CorePlayer haven't gotten AC3 decoding working on the Mac.

Oh, they actually managed to finish CorePlayer? That's the first I've heard of that. Although I am not in any way surprised that it has some huge gotcha; CoreCodec always manages to drop the ball somehow.
