I just bought a new copy of XP Pro for a new build and as I am installing it got to a point where it said is could not install mpg4mod.dll. I tried to retry installing it but the same thing happened so I just skipped it. Then the same thing happens for the next file it tried to install which was mpg4ds32.ax, i skipped that also. I figured that these obviously had something to do with mpeg-4 video maybe some sort of codec or something. So I guess my question is, does anyone know what these files are and what they do, does it matter if I don't install them, and finally if it does matter is there anyway of installing these files.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes.
mpg4mod.dll is the Windows Media Player Codec for MPG4.

There should be no reason for it not to install other than a corrupted CD.
(or if you used a very old video card for install)

You may want to see if you can manually extract them to test the CD.

I think it is because I used an old video card because I was installing it on an old laptop I had to make sure it worked (I bought the Windows XP off E-Bay and wanted to make sure it wasn't pirated or anything). The laptop has some old 2mb NeoMagic integrated graphics that doesn't even have hardware acceleration. So I imagine that it is just to old to support mpeg-4. I am waiting on my RAM to come in for my new rig so I will test it on my new build in a day or two. I could also extract the files off the disk so I don't think the disk is corrupted.

Thanks for your help!
