Can someone please recommend simple mpg (or avi) file editors? I don't need any high level stuff. I only need to split a big mpg (or avi) file into 2 or more smaller files. I know about a program called rzjoin, but I need each splitted file independently viewable. Any recommendation? Thanks.

Not sure if it is proper netiquette to reply to my own post, but I just want to report that I found this convenient program called TMPGEnc, which does split mpg files. But still, it goes through re-encoding which is time consuming. Just splitting files should be a lot quicker than that. Anything else available? Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. BTW, isn't there some dos command line function that simply cut or merge files?

VCDHelp

The above link has the software and instructions on how to edit mpeg and avi files.

I use virtualdub for avi files and tmpgenc for mpeg files, both of which work great and are free.
