just for the heck of it i figured i'd try out the MPEG4 H264 codec/conversion.

and wow what a total waste.

MAJOR MAJOR pixelation when using the defualt h264 conversion method which is supposedly high definition standards.

after nearly 10 hours of a 1hr27min movie i had only encoded 33 minutes of video.

and the video was absolutely horrible!

anyone else tried this new MPEG4 codec and tried converting a movie ?

Which converter did you use PoopyPants? Also what's your rig?

I use Moonlight OneClick Compressor and it works flawlessly. Videos are 1/4 the size of the original MPEG file. For DVDs, I encode the file at 1Mbps. For HDTV, I use a 5Mbps. The files look just as good as the original. As for conversion times, with my 3.4c, I convert at around 0.75-1x for SDTV files. For HDTV clips, it's a painfully slow 0.1x

Don't give up on h.264. It's the future for video codecs.

yeah i was messing around with stuff making a custom conversion and definately had the wrong thing checked which was causing it to run like poo. and look like poo.

i dumped a vob file off my Bram Stokers Dracula DVD cuz it was the first one i grabbed and it converted one 1gig vob in around 23 min.

but the file wouldnt play. infact it wouldnt do anything.
the divx player opened the file but wouldnt play.
media player simply stalled and locked at 99% cpu
Power DVD stalled at 99% cpu.

not sure what i did wrong but it wont play.

the file i was converting was an old divx movie i had that was actually 700 megs and was supposedly suppose to convert to 2gigs.. so compressing a compressed file isnt good with this codec lol.

still wondering how and why the vob file i did wouldnt play. it was decrypted with dvd decryptor so... :\
