Can anyone reccomend a program that will let me mark and trim my mpeg2 files, then save as a smaller size? I tried using TMPGEnc, but when it saved my file the new, trimmed one was double the size of the old.

Is there anything nice and simple out there that lets you edit and save in the identical format?

within tmpgenc look for the menu that says MPEG Tools. there are tools in there for cutting without reencoding.

From what I know, all the tools already mentioned - and everything that exist on the market - will create audio-video desynchronisations.

Except for a single applicaton: VideoReDo.

VideoReDo is the only program that I've seen consistently able to cut and paste MPEG2 files without desynchronisations. Everything else is useless.

I cut and merge a lot of MPEG files (VCD) and I've never seen it go out of sync. I used to use something called iFilm Edit but they stopped making it. Now I use TMPGEnc Xpress or Honestech Video Editor.

VCD is one thing, because it's an older compression algorythm, but MPEG2 is a different beast altogether. Re-read the OP.

I stress it again: for MPEG2 cut/paste, the only tool I've seen that's constantly reliable and error-free is VideoReDo. Check out the reviews here, including opinions from people who used Womble MPEG VCR before:
