MPEG editing software?

I'm looking for some kind of MPEG editing software where I can edit video clips like splice clips. I tried to install Sony Vegas on my laptop, but it wouldn't install and M$'s movie maker won't install either. Are there any suggestions?

I'd suggest finding out why those two programs won't install, since they should both work fine for what you want to do. When you tried to install them, what error messages did you get?

Well, this laptop is flacky. It will install fine on my Desktop, but not the laptop. When I install Sony Vegas it says it can't extract a cab file or something and M$'s movie maker just takes forever and I get a error. I am pretty good with computers and I have no idea what it could be. I don't think it's Comodo as I have the defense shield off.

I'm just looking for a light weight MPEG editor for my laptop.

Avidemux? I don't really do much video editing, and can't remember what I use from one time to the next.

Well, after searching Google I found something in the first three results. Wondershare Video Editor. I'll play around with this and see if I like it.

Sounds like the laptop has a bad cd/dvd drive.

No... The Sony Vegas was a trial download and MS's movie player was a download.

I had problems with this laptop before when I first got it and tried to install XP on it. I couldn't install skype or Flash so I installed Win 7 and so far so good I just had to use Dell Vista drivers as Dell didn't have Win 7 drivers. This is a Precession M 6300. Another problem I am having is after playing MTS video files the graphics driver will crash and then recover. But I got what I payed for I guess. Picked the laptop on Ebay with no hard drive, hard drive caddy or AC adapter and bought an SSD, hard drive caddy and AC adapter and stuck it together. The hard drive is a SSD G.Skill 60 GB Sniper.
