MPAA sues Sigma Designs and MediaTek

What the...? What security fatures are we talking about here? Ripping a damn DVD and sharing it over the internet has nothing to do with a chip! "Their licenses require that they sell only to other CSS-licensed companies" Really! ? So, then, Apex and Norcent and Mintek and countless other Asian brand DVD players are supposed to do what, disappear?

If this actually goes ahead, we'll start having problems with TV-out modules on our video cards... f^%$^@ greedy industry !

If its primary use is to rip the DVDs and circumvent the copyprotection, then there is grounds for suing them.

Sigma and MediaTek make chips to decode the Content Scramble System, or CSS, which is the copy-protection system used for DVDs.

I thought I'd heard of some issues already with newer drivers, for cards that don't pass on macrovision protection properly or some such thing.

It has nothing to do with ripping and all to do with not paying the MPAA tax which they have no legal ground to collect because they did not patenant CSS.

Over a year ago I did two extensive threads on the goal of the RIAA and MPAA along with Microsoft and Intel. Collectively they want total control of all hardware and software, it's called "Trusted Computing".

Another misleading name like "Fair Labor Act", "Patriot Act" etc etc.
