MP4's From Handbrake

I wanted to transfer my DVD's on an external hard drive. I downloaded Handbrake and put the DVD's on my hard drive as an MP4. On my computer they play great. When I plug the USB into my TV it says it can't see a movie. I know the specs to be seen on my TV must be H.264, BP/MP/HP 1929x1080 Frame rate 6~30 Bit Rate 25.
I have no idea whether that's what Hand brake changes their MP4's to but mine are not recognized by either of my TV's.
Yet every thing I see and hear about Handbrake putting DVD on a hard drive and plying them is such a breeze.
Can anyone help?

Well what were the encode settings you used in handbrake to create the MP4?
Make and Model of TV's? So we can double check things.

Does it see the files and just fail to playback or do they not even show up to be played?

If they're not even being seen, is it because you don't have them in a folder labelled 'video'?

Most of the older Samsung TV's don't support profile level higher than 4.1. I believe Handbrake default setting is 5.1. You have to manually set it to use 4.1. Under the Advanced tab, there's a text box where you can type in your own parameter. Append rofile=high:level=4.1 to the end of the line. Hope that helps.

I tried Badkarma rofile=high:level=4.1.
Again it is on the external and plays great on the computer but the TV says it is not there

I am sorry but I can not find "universal" preset in handbrake. I have looked everywhere it's probably me.

BTW I am running 9.8 version.

I'll bet I am the only person who has a problem.

Right, but does the TV see the file. I understand that you can play it back on the PC, but are you able to navigate to the video file on the TV and at least attempt to play it back?

"Universal" is under Presets (view -> Show Presets if you don't see them) -> Devices

You might also have to turn off variable bitrate under Video.

Universal should work but it's ugly. Once you find something working you should try other presets, and tweaks to other presets, until you get something that looks good.

I can see the video on the device from my computer. When I plug the device into the tv it says "loading" then a sign pops up saying no video on device

I uploaded the settings I use to Mediafire. Download that and import it to your Handbrake presets. Try that and see if it works.

Badkarma I re-read your message. I see that Mediafire is free file web hosting Ill give it a shot.

Maybe I am trying to make a simple thing complicated. All I want to do is to put my DVD's on an external hard drive so I can watch them easier plus I can take the hard drive to my grand kids to watch on their TV.

Anyway I'll give Mediafire a shot.

BTW do you folks know of any program that I can pay for that will do what I want?

I am putting my DVD's on a hard drive. I am using Hadbrake
Container MP4 File BUT when I check the Hard Drive is says
Type of File M4v. Shouldn't the file on the Hard Drive say MP4?

I am probably doing everything right but my TV can't see it. In that case when I start to move the DVD to a hard drive I'll do AVI

I may have missed something. How is your hard drive formatted? If it's not FAT32, your TV might not be able to read anything off it. FAT32 also limits each file to 4GB.

Alternatively, are your TV and computer on the same network? I see your TV supports DLNA, so maybe a UPnP server on your computer could serve video to your TV? I'm using MediaTomb on Linux, which has no Windows version, but maybe something like PS3 Media Server would work.

I think I messed up what you wanted me to do.

First download Mediafire
From there I should download Handbrake again?
