one of my drives crashed, so instead of running xp off of that drive, i threw it out and installed xp on a new partition on my WD HD running off of my promise ide controller. the problem is, not sure if lies in the drive...or something i did wrong..but, when i play mp3s they skip. any ideas why? 🙁

ahh, well not crashed...but it failed. numerous times. i've been having random data loss, and on bootup, i got a bios error: "SLAVE DRIVE FAILURE" dont think thats good ;p

the card is a creative live! series card...not sure which though, i can check but i'd have to pull it. i saw my IDE controller and soundcard were on the same IRQ...so i swapped some things around. st ill has that problem. i'm using the XP drivers, not usre if they are out of date...or if it'd help

wow...multi problems...on the hd...grab the manufacturer's drive checking utility and read(printout would be good..😉 ) about using it before running it....what mobo..? does it have onboard audio..is it disabled in the BIOS..? I usually let XP handle IRQs as it will try to dump most on 11 ..there is a switch on a fresh install of XP ..I believe to allow manual on IRQs ..google is your friend there..... good luck 🙂 <edit> typos...😛

the HD is pretty old, 2 yrs or so? some maxtor drive. the mobo is a kr7a-raid. has onboard audio..i've never disabled it before OR had any problems with the mp3s skipping. i let xp handle the IRQs. still no luck :/

it seems that my harddrive may be the problem?

i ran speed disk last night, and one of my drives (20gb) is still optimizing..what could be teh cause of something like that?

a slow drive?
