A program that could convert MP3 files (with only piano in them) to sheet music would be very nice. Don't suppose such a thing exists? I googled around and didn't find squat. I know it's possible with Midi files.

First find an mp3 to midi converter. I don't know of any free ones off hand, though.

A simple search revealed This site. I'm sure there are more.

Obviously it's not as simple as going from one audio format to another, but I'm sure the programs are sophisticated enough to detect piano notes.

Having trouble getting sheet music from midi doesn't make sense to me. Are you trying to print sheet music to manually play? If so, midi files would be the right format to work from since all they are is a musical score for up to 16 instruments. I believe that Notation software is what is used to print out (I've never done that) the parts. Finale, Cakewalk and Midi Illustrator are brand names that come to mind, but good ones can be costly. Perhaps hitsquad or Harmony-central can direct you better.

http://www.anvilstudio.com has a free program to read and edit midi files, but I don't know if it prints sheet music.

Mp3 files are compressed sound files and would need to be converted to midi to print sheet music. That would be like asking how many inches in an hour. I have heard of efforts to do it for piano only, but I have not heard of success.

Hope this was some help.

So far i've had bad luck with the MP3->Midi programs i've tried. I try two of the ones listed on the page above and both said "File Type Unknown" when i tried to open and mp3 file...i don't get it. I'll look for some better programs tomorrow i guess.

cuz he has no money? why ask such an irrelevant question?

Because some people don't know what's really available. Ever heard of a "fake book"?

What kind of music you looking for, OP?
