mp3 to mp3 conversion (i.e. converting mp3s of one bitrate to another bitrate)

any software capable of doing this that'll do the entire file and is freely downloadable (legit/non-legit)...

advanced encode/decode tools can do it, but it only does half the file in the demo version...garbage!

i want to encode some mp3s to a lower bitrate for my portable...i don't want to manually convert to wave and then mp3 if i don't have to...

Bad idea. Recompressing anything with a lossy compression is simply a bad idea.
Either re-encode the music from the raw format, or start downloading lower bitrate files for your portable.

suga, i was hoping u wouldn't say that...should've made mention i refuse to install real crap.

it does have a nice little feature of auto-converting, but it doesn't work w/ my rio500 in win2k (well, since last time i checked)

Real crap? You mean crap from Real, as in RealPlayer? Or just crap software? If you're talking about Real, then yes, I agree none of that crap from Real, but MusicMatch Jukebox isn't made by Real, and it's a lot better than RealJukebox or whatever they sell. I've used MusicMatch for a few years now, and I've never had a problem with it, either philosophically or computer-wise.

music match's encoder sucks balls. even blade is better and its free.

either DL lower bit rate stuff or reencode at the lower bit rate, converting sucks.

I've been using MusicMatch for quite some time (now using version 6.1), and it sounds just great to me when I do CD rips at 192kbps

ok...

again, i don't care if converting sucks, i simply want to know if there exists such a program...

i want to convert, i want my mp3s to suck...

You know, it's nice when people try to offer suggestions, but answer the man's question if you're going to reply to his thread.

Several programs will do this. Freely downloadable brings that number down quickly.

My suggestion would be to use RazorLame, a small frontend for the lame encoder. Drag and drop your mp3s there, choose settings, away you go, mp3-mp3 conversion.
Same as the CDex suggestion, though RazorLames pretty darn handy too.

It's all over, one place would be here (preset with the --r3mix -b112 settings, you can change them) Says Win32Lame, has RazorLame as part of the install.

Same thing over here, I love Musicmatch because it's easy to use, has everything built in, and you have a library and a playlist, unlike winamp. It uses the fraunhofer codec, which is one of the best.

And nortexoid, how dare you compare it to that Real jukebox crap! 😉
